Persian
Etymology
From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (lʾt' /rād/), from Old Persian [script needed] (*rā́daʰ), from Proto-Iranian *HráHdah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HráHdʰas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂réh₁dʰ-o-s, from *h₂reh₁dʰ- (“to care”) + *-os.
Cognate with Old Avestan 𐬭𐬁𐬛𐬀𐬵 (rādah, “generosity, care; generous”), Vedic Sanskrit राधस् (rā́dhas, “favour, generosity, gift”), Proto-Slavic *raditi (“to care about, to heed”), Proto-Germanic *rēdaną (“to decide, advise”).
