From Middle Persian rāhnāmag, from lʾs (rāh, way) + MGLTA, nʾmk' (nāmag, book). Whence also Arabic رَاهْنَامَج (rāhnāmaj), رَهْنَامَج (rahnāmaj), a Middle Persian borrowing.
