From Persian روباه (rubâh), from Middle Persian [script needed] (rōpās), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *laupāća, diminutive of *laupi, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂u̯l(o)p ~ *h₂ulp ((red) fox).
