Inherited from Middle Hindi سرسوں (srsvṉ /⁠sarsõ⁠/) (c. 1751),[1] from Old Hindi سرسوں (srsvṉ /⁠sarsõ⁠/) (c. 1300s), from Prakrit 𑀲𑀭𑀺𑀲𑀯 (sarisava), from Sanskrit सर्षप (sarṣapa).
