Gulf Arabic

Etymology

From Arabic عَصَا (ʕaṣā). The extra -ya suggests a عصاءة or عصاية earlier form, otherwise an irregular development. Cognate with Modern Hebrew עֵץ ('etz, tree), Hijazi Arabic عصاية (ʿaṣāya).
