Etymology

Apparently diminutive of a *كَمِيت (*kamīt) as a passive participle from كَمَتَ (kamata, “to cover”), and that an extension of a form from the root ك م م (k-m-m) related to “covering, enveloping”, hence something “shaded” in skin-colour.

     عَلَيْكُمْ بِكُلِّ كُمَيْتٍ أَغَرَّ مُحَجَّلٍ، أَوْ أَشْقَرَ أَغَرَّ مُحَجَّلٍ، أَوْ أَدْهَمَ أَغَرَّ مُحَجَّلٍ

     ʕalaykum bikulli kumaytin ʔaḡarra muḥajjalin, ʔaw ʔašqara ʔaḡarra muḥajjalin, ʔaw ʔadhama ʔaḡarra muḥajjalin

     Keep to every dark red horse with white on the face and on the legs, or sorrel with white on the face and on the legs, or black with white on the face and on the legs.

     أَوْ أَدْهَمٍ فِيهِ كُمْتَةٌ أَمَمٌ كَأَنَّهُ قِطْعَةٌ مِنَ الغَلَسِ

     ʔaw ʔadhamin fīhi kumtatun ʔamamun kaʔannahū qiṭʕatun mina l-ḡalasi

     or a black horse have dark red color, as if it is a piece of the early night.
