Borrowed from Arabic اللَّاذِقِيَّة (al-lāḏiqiyya), from Ancient Greek Λαοδίκεια (Laodíkeia), from Λαοδίκη (Laodíkē) + -εια (-eia), the name of numerous Hellenistic cities, generally named after one of many women by the name of Λαοδίκη (Laodíkē).
