Etymology[edit]
Borrowed from Arabic مَحْجُوب (maḥjūb, “veiled; conceiled, hidden”), from the passive participle of the verb حَجَبَ (ḥajaba, “to veil, hide, conceal”).

- veiled, curtained, covered or conceiled by a veil or curtain
- ashamed, embarrassed, having a feeling of shameful discomfort
