From Aramaic, found as Jewish Palestinian Aramaic and Jewish Babylonian Aramaic מַשְׁכֹּונָא (maškōnā) and Classical Syriac ܡܶܫܟܳܢܳܐ (meškānā), from Akkadian 𒈦𒃷 (MAŠ.GAN2 /⁠maškanu⁠/).
