Etymology
[edit]From perhaps both Classical Syriac ܢܘܫܐ (nawšã, “coffin, sarcophagus; tomb, sepulchre”) and ܢܘܣܐ (nawsā, “charnel, repository for the dead”), derived from Ancient Greek νᾱός (nāós, “innermost part of a temple, sanctuary, or shrine”); applied historically by Greek sources to describe the burial chamber and sarcophagus found in the innermost of a Pyramid.
