A corruption of Classical Persian بَصَل (basal), from Arabic بَصَل (baṣal). This corruption involves a lenition from /b/ to /ʋ/ in the word-initial consonant and gemination of the word-medial consonant. Compare Sindhi بَصَرُ (baṣaru).
