Etymology[edit]

From یومورطه (yumurta, egg) +‎ ـلق (-lik, -like), the name of a local beach which is probably named after the loggerhead turtles that lay eggs there. During the Ottoman era the town was known as آیاس (ayas), from which Italian Laiazzo.
