Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀮𑀸𑀯 (kalāva), from Sanskrit कलाप (kalāpa). First attested in c. 1603[1] as Middle Hindi کلاوا (klava). Cognate with Marathi कळवा (kaḷvā), Punjabi کلاوا (kalāvā).
