From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle Persian kyn' (kēn, hate, malice, revenge), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Persian *𐎣𐎡𐎴 (kaina-), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European Proto-Indo-European *kʷoynéh₂ (revenge, punishment; redemption price; price; honor). Akin to Avestan 𐬐𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬁 (kaēnā, punishment, revenge) and Old Armenian քէն (kʻēn).
