From (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle Persian kyn' (kēn, “hate, malice, revenge”), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old Persian *𐎣𐎡𐎴 (kaina-), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Proto-Indo-European Proto-Indo-European *kʷoynéh₂ (“revenge, punishment; redemption price; price; honor”). Akin to Avestan 𐬐𐬀𐬉𐬥𐬁 (kaēnā, “punishment, revenge”) and Old Armenian քէն (kʻēn).
