From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (gc /gač/, “plaster, gypsum”), ultimately from Akkadian 𒅎𒌓 (IM.BABBAR /gaṣṣu/, “gypsum”). Cognate with Khotanese [script needed] (gatsä, “gypsum”).
