From Ancient Greek στρᾰτηγῐ́ᾱ (stratēgíā) based of off Classical Syriac ܐܣܛܪܛܝܓܐ (ʾesṭrāṭēḡā, general, commander). The latter sense is a semantic loan from English strategy.
