From Arabic بَيْرُوت (bayrūt), or directly from Phoenician 𐤁𐤓𐤕 (brt /⁠Berot, Birut⁠/, literally wells); therefore doublet of ܒܹܐܪ̈ܵܬ݂ܵܐ (bērāṯā).
