From Ottoman Turkish بیروت (Beyrût), from Arabic بَيْرُوت (Bayrūt), ultimately from Phoenician 𐤁𐤓𐤕 (brt /Bērūt/), from Proto-West Semitic *biʾrāt- (“wells”). Doublet of Berytus.
