Etymology

From Aramaic אָוָוזָא (/ʾawazzā/), from Akkadian 𒊻𒄷 (/ūsu/, duck), from Sumerian 𒊻𒄷 (/uz/, wild duck, waterfowl), likely all onomatopoeic in origin. Compare Arabic إِوَزّ (ʔiwazz) and Hebrew אֲוָז (ʾăwāz).
