Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܢܣܝܪܐ, past participle of ܢܵܣܹܪ (nāsēr, “to saw”); ultimately a Calque of Ancient Greek πρίσμα (prísma, “something sawed”), cognate to Hebrew מִנְסָרָה (minsará) and Arabic مَوْشُور (mawšūr).
