Etymology[edit]

Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܢܣܝܪܐ, past participle of ܢܵܣܹܪ (nāsēr, to saw); ultimately a Calque of Ancient Greek πρίσμα (prísma, something sawed), cognate to Hebrew מִנְסָרָה (minsará) and Arabic مَوْشُور (mawšūr).
