Etymology[edit]
From the plural imperative of ܦܵܝܹܫ (pāyēš, “remain”) + ܫܲܝܢܵܐ (šaynā, “safety”), literally “remain in safety”; compare Arabic مَعَ ٱلسَّلَامَةِ (maʕa s-salāmati).
