Borrowed from Classical Persian ابر (abr), from Middle Persian ʾbl, ʾp̄l (abr, cloud), from Proto-Iranian *abráh, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *abʰrás, from Proto-Indo-European *n̥bʰrós. Doublet of अभ्र (abhra). Compare Bengali আবর (abor).
