Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *h₁ĺ̥-ḱo-s, from *h₁el- (“deer, horned wild animal”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἔλαφος (élaphos, “red deer”), English elk. Also related to ऋश्य (ṛśya).
