Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *कच्च (kacca, “raw, unripe”) without cluster simplification. Displaced Hindi काँचा (kā̃cā).[1] Compare Sanskrit काषण (kāṣaṇa, “unripe”). Cognate with Punjabi ਕੱਚਾ (kaccā), Bengali কাঁচা (kãca).
