Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀟 (kappaḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit कर्पट (karpaṭa), ultimately from Munda. Related to कापड (kāpaḍ, cloth, piece of cloth). Cognate with Konkani कपडो (kapḍo), Hindi कपड़ा (kapṛā).
