Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀔𑁄𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀇 (khokkhaï). Related to खोकला (khoklā, a cough). Cognate with Hindi खोंखना (khõkhnā), Nepali खोक्नु (khoknu).
