[edit]Inherited from Apabhramsa घुंट (ghuṃṭa), from Prakrit *घुंटइ, घुट्टइ (ghuṃṭaï, ghuṭṭaï, “gulps”), of Dravidian origin. Cognate with Punjabi ਘੁੱਟ (ghuṭṭa, “sip, gulp”), Gujarati ઘૂંટ (ghū̃ṭ), and Marathi घोट (ghoṭ).
