[edit]Inherited from Apabhramsa घुंट (ghuṃṭa), from Prakrit 𑀖𑀼𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀇 (ghuṭṭaï, “gulps”), of Dravidian origin. Cognate with Punjabi گُھٹّ (ghuṭṭ, “sip, gulp”), Gujarati ઘૂંટ (ghū̃ṭ), and Marathi घोट (ghoṭ).
