Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit *𑀘𑀯𑁆𑀯𑀇 (*cavvaï), from Sanskrit चर्वति (cárvati). Cognate with Gujarati ચાવવું (cāvvũ), Hindi चाबना (cābnā), चबाना (cabānā).
