Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tápati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tápati, from Proto-Indo-European *tép-e-ti, from *tep-. Cognate with Persian تافتن (tâftan) and Avestan 𐬙𐬀𐬞𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (tapaiti).
