[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑀓𑁆𑀔𑀺𑀡 (dakkhiṇa) without cluster simplification, from Sanskrit दक्षिण (dákṣiṇa, “right (side), south”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dáćšinas, from Proto-Indo-European *déḱsinos, from *deḱs- (“right (side)”). Doublet of दक्षिण (dakṣiṇ). Cognate with Punjabi ਦੱਖਣ (dakkhaṇ).
