Etymology

From Old Marathi दमणे (damaṇe), from Sanskrit दाम्यति (dā́myati). Cognate to Gujarati દમવું (damvũ), Odia ଦମିବା (damibā), Bengali দমা (doma), Assamese দমা (doma).

दमणे (damṇe) (intransitive)

  1. to get tired, fatigued, weary
    Synonym: थकणे (thakṇe)
  2. to be tamed, controlled, subjected, subdued
