Etymology[edit]
Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘟𑘲𑘢𑘜𑘹 (dīpaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀤𑀺𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀇 (dippaï), 𑀤𑁂𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀇 (deppaï), 𑀟𑀺𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀇 (ḍippaï), from Sanskrit दीप्यते (dīpyate). Cognate with Gujarati દીપવું (dīpvũ), Hindustani دِیپْنَا (dīpnā) / दीपना (dīpnā), Odia ଦୀପିବା (dipiba).
