[edit]Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀥𑀼𑀡𑀺 (dhuṇi), from Sanskrit धुनि (dhúni, “sounding, noisy”, adjective), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰún-is, from *dʰwen- (“to make noise”). Distant cognate with English din.
