Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀥𑀼𑀡𑀺 (dhuṇi), from Sanskrit धुनि (dhúni, sounding, noisy, adjective), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰún-is, from *dʰwen- (to make noise). Distant cognate with English din.
