Etymology

Sometimes explained as an artificial Sanskritization of Prakrit Lua error in Module:parameters at line 229: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "pmh" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., compare Newar नेवाः (newā:, Newar). Others regard the Sanskrit form as older. Perhaps ultimately of Sino-Tibetan origin.

Popular etymologies derive it from compounds like ने (ne, a chief) +‎ पाल (pāla, cherishing).

Proper noun

नेपाल (nepāla) stemm

  1. Name of a country and (pl.) of a people, Nepal or the Nepalese.
