      Borrowed from Braj बाँसुरी (bā̃surī), ultimately from Sanskrit वंशी (vaṃśī, flute). Doublet of बाँसली (bā̃slī), the native term which it displaced.

      Cognate to Gujarati વાંસળી (vā̃saḷī), Bengali বাঁশি (bãśi), Assamese বাঁহী (bãhi).
