Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀯𑀟𑁆𑀠𑀺 (vaḍḍhi), from Sanskrit वृद्धि (vṛddhi, “increase”). Cognate to Bhojpuri बाढ़ि (bāṛhi).
