Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀯𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀘 (vicca), from Sanskrit *वीच्य (vīcya), which is derived from the root *व्यञ्च् (vyañc), from वि- (vi-) +‎ अञ्च् (añc)[1]. The root अञ्च् (añc) is from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hanč-, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂enk-.
