Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *bʰišáȷ́ (physician, healer), from the root *bʰiš- (medicine, healing). Cognate with Avestan 𐬠𐬌𐬱𐬀𐬰- (bišaz-), Northern Kurdish bijişk (doctor), Persian پزشک (pezešk, doctor).
