Etymology

From Old Marathi 𑘥𑘹𑘘𑘜𑘹 (bheṭaṇe), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀪𑁂𑀝𑁆𑀝𑁆- (*bheṭṭ-, to meet) (compare Lua error in Module:parameters at line 333: Parameter 1 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "pmh" is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF.). Cognate with Gujarati ભેટવું (bheṭvũ), Sindhi ڀيٽَڻُ / भेटणु (bheṭaṇu), Nepali भेट्नु (bheṭnu), Odia ଭେଟିବା (bheṭibā), Assamese ভেটা (bheta). Related to भेट (bheṭ).
