Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from English monsoon, from Portuguese monção and Dutch moesson, from Arabic مَوْسِم (mawsim, “season”), from وَسَمَ (wasama, “to mark, to brand”). [1][2] Doublet of मौसम (mausam).
