Borrowed from Persian مصر (mesr), from Arabic مِصْر (miṣr), related to Hebrew מִצְרַיִם (mitsráyim). Compare Bengali মিশর (miśôr), Punjabi ਮਿਸਰ (misar), Oriya ମିଶର (miśôrô), Sinhalese මිසරය (misaraya).
