Borrowed from Classical Persian مصر (misr), from Arabic مِصْر (miṣr), related to Hebrew מִצְרַיִם (mitsráyim). Compare Bengali মিশর (miśôr), Gujarati મિસર (misar), Punjabi ਮਿਸਰ (misar), Odia ମିଶର (miśara), Sinhalese මිසරය (misaraya).
