Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀫𑀼𑀳 (muha), 𑀫𑀼𑀖 (mugha), from Sanskrit मुख (múkha, mouth, face, visage), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *múkʰam, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *múkʰam.

Doublet of मुख (mukh), a tatsama.
