Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘩𑘢𑘜𑘹 (lapaṇe), 𑘩𑘻𑘢𑘜𑘹 (lopaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀮𑁄𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀇 (loppaï), from Sanskrit लोप्यते (lopyate). Cognate with Odia ଲୋପିବା (lopiba).
