Etymology[edit]

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀮𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀺 (laṭṭhi), from Prakrit [script needed] (*laṣṭi), perhaps from a portmanteau of Sanskrit लकुट (lakuṭa, a club) + यष्टि (yaṣṭi, (memorial) pillar).[1][2]
