From Prakrit 𑀮𑀟𑁆𑀟𑀺𑀅 (laḍḍia, caressing) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀮𑁆𑀮- (-illa-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), ultimately from Sanskrit लड् (laḍ, to play). Equivalent to लाड़ (lāṛ, affection) +‎ -ला (-lā).
