Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Hsuśráwas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsućráwas, from *Hsu- (good) +‎ *ćráwas (fame). Equivalent to सु- (su-, good) +‎ श्रवस् (śrávas, fame). Cognate with Avestan 𐬵𐬀𐬊𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬢𐬵𐬀‎‎ (haosrauuaŋha‎‎, mythical figure) (from an unattested *𐬵𐬎𐬯𐬭𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬀‎ (*husrauua‎)), Ancient Greek εὐκλεής (eukleḗs).
