Inherited from Sanskrit होड (hoḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-). Cognate with Konkani होडी (hoḍī) / hoddi, व्हडें (vhaḍẽ), होडें (hoḍẽ) / ಹೊಡೆಂ / hoddem, Gujarati હોડી (hoḍī), Hindustani ہوڑِی (hoṛī) / होड़ी (hoṛī), Dhivehi އޮޑި (oḍi).
