Etymology 2
[edit]Learned borrowing from Sanskrit अकर्म (akarma), which enters into Prakrit as অকাম, and remains unchanged in Bengali or turns into আকাম (akam). Alternatively, it is formed by Bengali prefixation অ- (o-) + কাম (kam, “work”). Doublet of অকর্ম (ôkôrmô).
