Borrowed from Classical Persian انجیل (injīl), from Arabic إِنْجِيل (ʔinjīl), from Classical Syriac ܐܘܢܓܠܝܘܢ (ʾewwangellīōn) (or another Semitic intermediary), from Ancient Greek εὐαγγέλιον (euangélion, literally good news). Cognate with Hindustani انجیل / इंजील (iñjīl).
